I’m up to my eyeballs in yoga. The yoga studio I’m going to, YogAslyum, is simply amazing. They have really created an atmosphere where people want to be, enjoy the workout, and are fully supported by the instructors as well as the other classmates. Can I do this super hard pose? YES YOU CAN! And they all smile while they tell you that you can do it too.

After attending the vinyasa classes for two weeks, I finally felt up to the power yoga class — which was taught by my very first yoga instructor when I began yoga 13 years ago. That was yesterday, and this morning my glutes were killing me! Then, my husband told me to go to the 10 a.m. yoga class today, rather than the 5 p.m. vinyasa class. Well, the 10 a.m. class is called Strength and Wellness. It focuses on my upper body and core, and I almost died. Especially when I got to the class at 10 a.m. and was all set to do my normal 75 minute class, then go about the rest of my day. However, at about 10:10 a.m. I was informed that I had just committed myself to 120 minutes of the hardest class on the schedule, AND it was taught by THE YOGA NAZI (her words, not mine).

Outgoing Village President Quickly "Hustles" for Business Before Term Expires in 2009

Outgoing Village President Dick Rechlicz is making sure he takes advantage of the Office of Village President for every opportunity to get as much business as possible for himself and his law firm before the term expires in April of 2009.

The Village President has apparently recruited quite a few new clients for himself as a real estate attorney during his nearly four years in office that were never his clients before he became Village President in 2005 as "word" quickly spread that if business people wanted their projects and proposals approved by the Menomonee Falls Village Board they would have to "go through" him to get it done.

Thanks to the generous gift from St. Mary's Alumni John Schilling we're proceeding with our Technology Forward program with the purchase of five SMART boards for our classrooms.

The SMART boards are interactive white boards that enhance the learning environment. 

We're thrilled to be able to offer this new learning tool to our students and teachers.

A perennial candidate for Village President who shall remain shameless tried, unsuccessfully, to besmirch the good name of. Rick Rechlicz. Rick Rechlicz is our current and outgoing Village President of Menomonee Falls.

I don't know Mr. Rechlicz personally but I do know when I had questions or issues with the Village he was easy to access and always provided a straight and pragmatic answer. We didn't always agree but at least I understood his reasoning.

 The state attorney general's office has asked Village Attorney Mike Morse for "information or opinions" about an invitation-only holiday party thrown by Village President Jefferson Davis for political appointees and trustees. The attorney general's letter, dated Dec. 22 and signed by Steven Tinker, the director of criminal litigation for the office's Antitrust and Consumer Protection Unit, is in response to an anonymous letter that included a copy of a Dec. 12 Journal Sentinel article that detailed Davis' holiday party, at which, those present said, village business was discussed.

The Wisconsin open meetings law requires advance public notice before a quorum of municipal officials meets to discuss public business. The village released the letter from Tinker after the Journal Sentinel filed an open records request asking for it Jan. 28. Morse declined to release his response, which he said was dated Feb. 3, because it fell outside the range of dates in the newspaper's records request. Morse said he could not release his letter without giving notice to any village officials mentioned in it and giving them five days to augment the letter. Morse said he told Tinker that he believes the village did not have to provide notice for the party. Morse said that even though it didn't have to, the village should have given notice for the holiday party, which members of the Village Board, Plan Commission and Zoning Board of Appeals attended. He said officials are reminded to not discuss official business at such parties.

 Village President Jefferson Davis has acted in an unprofessional manner and would put the village at legal risk if he didn't change, an investigation has found. The investigation, conducted by a lawyer and other village officials, stemmed from harassment complaints filed by two village workers who said Davis created a "hostile work environment" through "hostile, intimidating and offensive actions." The village paid the lawyer more than $3,700.

94.5 lake fm, milwaukee radio, wkti

I miss WKTI. As much as I enjoy hearing some of the songs at the new station, 94.5 Lake FM, the format on a whole is really not my cup of tea. I mean, who really wants to hear Captain & Tennille followed by Motley Crue? I sure don't.

In my opinion, the choices in Milwaukee for radio stations that play music are getting slim, unless you like this anything goes format.

Come join the Activities at St. Mary's Family Fun Fair 2009

Chase away the winter doldrums and join the St. Mary School Community from 5 to 9 p.m. Friday, January 30th at our annual Family Fun Fair.

St. Mary's is located at N89 W16215 Cleveland Ave., Menomonee Falls. Enter off of Main St., just east of Appleton Ave.Come for dinner and stay for the fun!

This annual community-building event is sponsored by the Day School's Home and School Association, and planned by the 1st Grade Families of the Parish School. The first graders selected this year’s theme to be Firm Believers in God (FBI), protect and defend, uphold and enforce God’s law and provide leadership and just  to all St. Mary’s agencies and partners.

All are welcome to this FREE admission carnival that features: games, inflatable attractions, hair and face painting, scavenger hunt, cake walk, raffles, food and more!

Tickets for food, beverages and activities will be sold during the night for 50 cents each. Most games are only one ticket.

A Time of Reflection with Transition of Administrations in Washington, D.C....Laus Deo, "Praise be to God"

President Bush and his Administration have done an honorable and admirable job providing one of the smoothest transitions in Presidential History.  Something he was not afforded 8 years ago.
 
We need to get behind our Country in these challenging times.  We will recover because we are Americans and we can meet, beat and exceed any challenge that is put before us.
 
We don't always have to agree and history has shown that it is good that we haven't.  But hopefully we can agree to respectfully disagree for the sake of our Country.
 
Unlike those who have chosen for 8 years to destroy the character and soul of a man for personal and selfish interests, let's rally around America and correct the mistakes that have been made to pave the way for a brighter and more hopeful America for everyone.
 
Enjoy this piece that was forwarded our way about the significance of the Washington Monument and the foundation of our great Country.  
 
I realize that some, if not all of you know the information contained here, 
 but it is good that we are all reminded of it on occasion.


One detail that is never mentioned is that in
Washington, D.C., there can never be a building
of greater height than the Washington Monument.
With all the uproar about removing the Ten
Commandments, etc., this is worth a moment or
 two of your time.  I was not aware of this
 amazing historical information.

On the aluminum cap, atop the Washington
Monument in Washington, D.C., are
displayed
 two words: Laus Deo.

No one can see these words.  In fact, most visitors to the monument are totally
unaware
they are even there and for that matter, probably couldn't care less.


 
Once you know Laus Deo's history, you will
want
to share this with everyone you know. 
These
words have been there for many years;
 they
 are 555 feet, 5.125 inches high, perched
atop the monument, facing skyward to the
 Father of our nation, overlooking the 69
square miles which comprise the
District of Columbia,
 Capitol of the United States of America

Laus Deo!  Two seemingly insignificant,
 unnoticed words. Out of sight and, one might
think, out of mind, but very meaningfully
placed at the highest
point over what is the most powerful city in
the most successful nation in the world.

So, what do those two words, in Latin,
composed of just four syllables and only
seven letters, possibly mean?  Very simply,
 they say
 'Praise be to God!'

Though construction of this giant obelisk
began in 1848, when James Polk was
President of the United States, it was
not until 1888 that the
monument was inaugurated and opened to
the public.  It took twenty-five years to
finally cap the memorial with a tribute
 to the
Father of our nation, Laus Deo.
'Praise be to God!'

From atop this magnificent granite and
marble structure, visitors may take
in the beautiful panoramic view of the city
 with its division
into four major segments.   From that
vantage point, one can also easily see the
original plan of the designer,
Pierre Charles l'Enfant...
A perfect cross imposed upon the landscape,
 with the White House to the north.  The
Jefferson Memorial is to the south, the Capitol
to the east and the
Lincoln Memorial to the west.   
 
A cross you ask?  Why a cross?  What about
separation of church and state?  Yes,
a cross; separation of church and state was
not, is not,
in the Constitution.  So, read on. How
interesting and, no doubt, intended to carry
a profound meaning for those who bother
 to notice.
Praise be to God! 
Within the monument itself
are 898 steps and 50 landings.  As one climbs
the steps and pauses at the landings the
memorial stones share a message.
 
On the 12th Landing is a prayer offered by the City
of Baltimore; on the 20th is a memorial
presented by some Chinese Christians;
 on the 24th a
presentation made by Sunday School children
 from New York and Philadelphia quoting
Proverbs 10:7, Luke 18:16 and Proverbs 22:6.
Praise be to God!
When the cornerstone of the Washington
Monument was laid on July 4th, 1848
deposited within it
were many items including the Holy Bible
presented by the Bible Society.
Praise be to God!
  Such was the discipline, the moral direction,
and the spiritual mood given by the founder
 and first President of our unique democracy
'One Nation, Under God.'

 I am awed by Washington's prayer for
America.
  Have you ever read it? Well, now is
your unique opportunity, so read on!

'Almighty God; We make our earnest prayer that
Thou wilt keep the United States in Thy holy
 protection; that Thou wilt incline the hearts
of the citizens to cultivate a spirit of
 subordination and obedience to
government; and entertain a brotherly affection and
love for one another and for their fellow citizens of
 the United States at large. And finally that Thou
wilt most graciously be pleased to dispose us all
to do justice, to love mercy, and to
demean ourselves with that charity, humility,
and pacific temper of
mind which were the characteristics of the
Divine Author of our blessed religion, and
without a humble imitation of whose example
in these things we can never hope to be a
happy nation. 
 Grant our supplication, we beseech Thee, through
 Jesus Christ our Lord.  Amen.'

When one stops to observe the inscriptions found in public places all over our
nation's
 capitol, he or she will easily find the signature of God, as it is unmistakably
 inscribed
 everywhere you look. You may forget the width and height of 'Laus Deo ',
its location,
 or the architects but no one who reads this will be able to forget its
meaning, or
these words: 'Unless the Lord builds the house its builders labor in vain. 
 Unless the
Lord watches over the city, the watchmen stand guard in vain.'  (Psalm 127: 1)

It is hoped you will send this to every child
you know; to every sister, brother, father,
 mother or friend.  They will not find
offense, because you have given them
a lesson in history that they probably
never learned in school.  With that,
 be not ashamed, or
afraid, but have pity on those who will
never see this because someone failed
to send it on.
 
'Do not ask GOD to Guide your
 Footsteps if you are not willing to
MOVE your feet'
 
President and Laura Bush are a class act.

Speech coach needed

 For those of you that have paid attention, I think that the primary reason the NY governor didn't choose Caroline Kennedy to step into Hillary's senate seat was obvious.  She couldn't put more than six words together in a sentence without the interjection - "ya know."

My only remaining question:  How could NY voters have chosen a carpetbagger from Arkansas to be their representative on the senate in the first place?

Let the movie quest begin!

Yesterday the Oscar nominees were announced, and that means one thing: my quest to see all of the nominated movies prior to the Oscar ceremony has begun.

I have one month to see them all. And the way that I see the movies is a lot like a the way a someone goes about participating in a hot dog eating contest: I just get them all in until there aren’t any left. There is no picking and choosing, I don’t see the ones I want to first and the ones I don’t want to last. If it’s on DVD I push it to the top of my Netflix Queue (I actually have The Visitor and The Duchess already), and if Netflix doesn’t ship it to me, I stalk my local Blockbuster until it’s in stock and then I rent it. If I have the chance to go to the movie theater, I jump on it and I see whatever is starting at the time I’m there.

Summer Employment...It's not too Early!

The Menomonee Falls Community Education & Recreation Department is looking for individuals interested in working with its Summer Kids INC Program (Playgrounds).  This is a great opportunity for college students working towards a degree in education, teachers who are looking for something to keep them busy during the summer, or anyone who just has a passion for working with children!  Leaders are generally scheduled 35 to 40 hours per week.

The program is scheduled to start Wednesday, June 17 (providing the School District of Menomonee Falls has no more snow/cold days) and run through August 28.  During the last two weeks of August the program is reduced from two sites to one, resulting in a reduction of staff.  Staff training and in-services will take place during the first part of June.
