The School District of Menomonee Falls, Community Education & Recreation Department will use this blog to share information relative to upcoming events, classes, programs, workshops and seminars for people of all ages, from preschool to older adults. Local Students Compete in Regional Free Throw Contest
Congratulations to all communities who participated in the 2010 Southeast Park & Recreation Council's (SEPRC) Free Throw Contest. Representing Menomonee Falls on Saturday, March 6 at West Allis Central High School were Joshua Barczak, Kristina Barczak and Matthew Peerson. After shooting two rounds of free throws, all placed very well in their respective age groups.

Summer Kickball and Dodgeall Leagues Just Around the Corner
Menomonee Falls CE & Rec will be offering adult Kickball and Dodgeball leagues this summer.

Beyond Your Piggy Bank
Beyond Your Piggy Bank is a program for students in grades 9 - 12.
If it's time to start taking care of your own finances, this course is perfect for you! Learn the basics of creating a savings and spending plan that will allow you to take care of everyday expenses, pay for college, or help you afford bigger things like an apartment or car.

CE & Rec Offers Educational Opportunities After School
The Menomonee Falls Community Education & Recreation Department is offering several after school programs for students in elementary school. The great thing about the classes is that they are located conveniently at each of the 4 elementary schools located within the Menomonee Falls School District, and are held immediately after school.
Spy Academy
Partnership with Mad Science of Waukesha County
From Decoding messages to metal detectors and might vision, children will have the opportunity to check out spy equipment and even create their own edible message! Children will use the Secret Code Breaker to communicate stealthily, like a real spy, and will use Undercover Observer to observe hidden objects. These tools will provide a complete undercover kit for children to take home. Classes begin January 25.
Theme Based Spanish
Partnership with Futura Language Professionals
Join our funny puppet friends, Dani and Beto on a series of animal-focused adventures! Along with their parrot friend and their biologist cousin Marta, they will blaze new trails to a pet store, a family farm, the zoo, the ocean, and even the rainforest! Students will learn animal-related vocabulary, catch glimpses of some special animals who call Latin America their home, and the practical and cultural importance of these animals. Lessons will be taught through the use of songs, games and crafts. Classes begin February 4.
Chess
Partnership with CheckMates Chess Academy
We invite your children to join us in our exploration of the world of chess. We will study chess tactics while playing many chess related games. Students of all levels will be challenged and receive prizes along their journey! The Rise in Rank program guides children through strategies in chess with workbooks and online support. Classes begin February 1.
Disney Pixar Drawing
Partnership with Promising Picassos
Students will be illustrating some of their favorite characters from movies like Monsters INC., Toy Story, Cars, Finding Nemo and more, while using cartooning techniques that may have been used in Disney Pixar movies. Markers, crayons and colored pencils will be used. Classes begin February 1

Summer Softball Leagues Just Around the Corner
Menomonee Falls CE & Rec will be offering men's, women's, coed, and outseam softball leagues this summer. League play is scheduled to begin in April. Team contracts are due no later than Wednesday, March 3.

Teen Center Holiday Party
Students in grades 6 - 8 are invited to join their friends at the Teen Center Holiday Party Friday, December 18 from 6:30 to 10:00 PM. Regular Teen Center admission or TPass applies.
In addition to regular Teen Center activities, special events will include relay races, hula hoop contests, ice cream sandwich eating contest (who can eat 1 the quickest, not how many can you eat), basketball free throw competition and more! Punch, cookies and brownies will be provided!
Prizes include Teen Center concession coupons, free Teen Center admission, Culver's Sundae coupons, Village Bowl coupons, Packer bags, Packer footballs, Cousin's gift card and more!

Pull Together for the Ronald McDonald House
Students in the Kids INC program are collecting pop tabs for the Ronald McDonald House. After the tabs are collected they will be given to the Ronald McDonald House which will then recycle the tabs for cash. Collection of the tabs is taking place November 19, 2009 through January 31, 2010. Collecting pop tabs is a great way to teach kids about philanthropy and the importance of recycling, and raise funds to help children and their families at the same time.
If you know a student who participates in the Kids INC program ask him or her how you can help collect tabs!

Winter/Spring Program Registration Begins December 7
Resident registration for winter/spring programs offered through Menomonee Falls CE & Rec begins at 12:01 AM on Monday, December 7 (the night of December 6). The best way to get into the class of your choice is to register online at www.fallsrec.org. Non-resident registration begins Friday, December 11 at 12:01 AM (the night of December 10).
Brochures will be mailed to residents the week of November 30. Copies of the brochure will be available at the CE & Rec Office, Menomonee Falls Public Library, Village Hall, Menomonee Falls Community Chamber, or Sussex Library. Program information can be viewed at www.fallsrec.org beginning Monday, November 23.
With over 20 new programs, 250 online courses, and hundreds of year round programs there is sure to be something for everyone!

The success of the Menomonee Falls Teen Center and general teen programs is only possible with the support of businesses and community organizations. Menomonee Falls Community Education & Recreation in partnership with the Blood Center of Wisconsin is hosting a Community Blood Drive Thursday, November 12 from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM in rooms 102A & 102B of the Community Center. The Blood Center of Wisconsin needs donors to help with this worthy cause.
The Blood Center of Wisconsin is the sole supplier of blood, blood products, research and diagnostic laboratory testing for 54 hospitals in our SE Wisconsin 28 counties. Our 4 Waukesha County hospitals alone use over 20,000 components annually to meet the needs of our friends and loved ones. You have the opportunity to help us meet local patient need by making your commitment to donate blood by. Appointments are recommended, but walk-ins are welcome. Senior Enrichment Fair
The Community Center is hosting the first Menomonee Falls Senior Enrichment Fair on Thursday, October 29 from 8:00 AM to 1:30 PM. Nourish your mind, body & soul by attending several of the educational sessions. Over 45 vendors will be on hand to entertain, educate and demonstrate. Lunch, refreshments and door prizes will be provided.

Crazy Chemistry
Partnership with Mad Science of Waukesha County
Your child will explore the world of chemistry by creating a tiny world of atoms and even a set of Atomic Coins. They will learn to manipulate laboratory equipment, and how to use Graduated Gear for research at home. The fun will continue as they explore pH extremes and the properties of light and glow in the dark technology. Classes begin September 28.

Join our class amigos Dani and Beto on two exiting Spanish adventures! In the Fall class, Vamos a Jugar! (Let's Play!), our class amigos will lead students on an exploration of games, sports, and hobbies that children throughout Mexico love. Students will learn game-related Spanish vocabulary and glimpse the cultural phenomenon that is futbol (soccer). Dani and Beto join us again in Spring for an exciting animal adventure with Vamos con los Animales! (Let's go with the animals!) For eight jam-packed sessions, we will blaze new trails to a pet store, a farm, the zoo, the ocean, and even the rainforest! Appropriate for students with or without previous Spanish experience. Classes begin October 1.

If your team is looking for a fall home, the CE & Rec Department has you covered. Join our Fall Adult Sports Leagues today! This year's offerings will include Men's and Coed Softball; Men's, Women's and Coed Volleyball; and Men's Basketball. There are a variety of league options and days of the week to choose from but openings are filling fast, so don't delay!

August Sports Camps - Register Today!
The Menomonee Falls Community Education & Recreation Department is running several sport camps throughout August.
MFHS Varsity Dance Team Pom Pon Camp
Ages 5 - 12
Make new friends while working as a team to perform routines taught by the MFHS Varsity Dance Team! Participants will be broken into age appropriate groups and taught routines that incorporate pom, kick, and jazz styles of dance. The participants will perform what they have learned for their parents and friends on the last day of camp.
Challenger Sports Soccer Camp
Ages 3 - 4
Young players are introduced to the sport of soccer through fundamental activities, games and challenges. Parents are encouraged to join in and help guide their child through this fun learning experience.
Ages 4 - 6
Children will participate in fun games, competitions and skill building activities designed to enlighten and develop budding soccer players.
Ages 6 - 9
In this all action soccer camp, emphasis is placed on skill development and mastery of core techniques through individual and small group practices and coached games.
Cross Country Camp
Ages 8 - 14
Athletes will learn all about the sport of cross country running, including stretching, nutrition, training and racing.

Vamos A Comer - Let's Eat!
Let's Eat! Indulge your child's appetite for language and culture with this theme based Spanish class. With the help of our fun-loving puppets Dani and Beto, your child will sing, dance, create, play, and act their way towards fluency with food-related Spanish vocabulary. Buen Provecho!
