Week 7 of Dancing with the Stars had both single dance and a group dance that was being judged and voted for by the audience.
Sometimes a gal is just looking for love. At HAWS, we have one girl in particular who's search continues.
Rizzo is a Cattle Dog mix, about 9 years old. She likes to be active and be the boss...but she's really not a tough chick. What she really wants is to live the good life! Maybe she'll find that with you?
Adopters interested in Rizzo will meet with one of HAWS' trainers to get tips on making her transition into your home a smooth one. Because, after all, being together is the word! (We'll stay away from 'grease' - it's not great for the skin....)
Learn all about HAWS' adoptable friends here. Or, better yet, stop by in person - HAWS is open 7 days a week at 701 Northview Road, Waukesha. Viewing/Adopting hours are Monday through Friday, 1:00 - 6:00 p.m.; Saturday, 11:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.; and Sunday, Noon - 4:00 p.m.

The Wisconsin Humane Society’s event coordinator, Jesse VanCamp, has received incredible event donations over the years, but a recent once-in-a-lifetime call really took her by surprise.
Dancing with the Stars Week 9 had a combination of the traditional performances and an additional section where there is a trio competition where another Professional joins the teams. Both scores were combined to establish who would not be making it through to the Semi-Final.
To celebrate the holiday season, Taco John’s is again partnering with HAWS and will donate a portion of each Nachos Navidad purchased through Christmas Day to the Waukesha shelter. TJ cares with great food for a great cause!
It is the Semi-Final week, who will make it through to next weeks final? Tonight had two performaces per couple. The first round went as follows:
HAWS will use a $5,000 SPARK grant from Diversified Insurance Solutions to fund a new program targeted to area youth ordered by the court system to complete community service.
HAWS will implement the Citizen Project in January, 2014, to teach responsibility and concern for others.
“We’ve wanted to offer the Citizen Project for the past few years but our budget has never been able to cover it,” notes HAWS Executive Director Lynn Olenik. “Now, thanks to the SPARK money, we can ensure teens are learning from interaction with and care of animals.”
The Citizen Project is patterned after successful programs around the country that pair juvenile offenders with animals in order to teach them a variety of skills – effective communication, responsibility, empathy, nurturing and confidence. In addition to caring for the animals, the youth will learn how to interact with animals, read their nonverbal cues and change the animals’ behavior using positive reinforcement. The teens are referred to HAWS by the Waukesha County court system and will spend 3-5 hours each week at HAWS.
“We’re excited that our funds will be used to help teach area teens valuable life skills that we hope will put them on the right track for the future,” says James McCormack, founder and chairman of Diversified Insurance Solutions. “We’re always looking for ways our company and associates can get involved with the community and provide support and help. We’ve developed a culture of outreach that’s embedded in our company’s personality.” A year-long Giveback community program was developed as part of Diversified Insurance Solutions’ 30th anniversary.
Diversified Insurance Solutions is one of Wisconsin's largest, full-service insurance brokers, providing employee benefits, risk management and business insurance to area companies. The company looks to fund new or existing programs that use fresh ideas to address a community need or problem.
By the way - its time to indulge for the animals!! Nachos Navidad now available at Taco John's of Waukesha, with a portion of the proceeds donated to HAWS!
