Local company announces 2012 Chick Days program

Menomonee Falls - Waldschmidt & Sons is pleased to announce their 2012 Chick Days, a program focused on healthy starts for the many baby animals that herald the coming of spring.

Registration opens for Relay for Life

Germantown - The American Cancer Society Relay For Life of Germantown gives everyone in the community a chance to help the organization save lives and create a world with less cancer and more birthdays. Register a team today by visiting RelayForLife.org or by calling (800) 227-2345.

Former and current cancer patients, those who have lost a loved one to cancer, families, businesses, faith-based and civic organizations, and anyone wanting to make a difference in the fight against cancer are invited to take part in Relay for Life, slated for 6 p.m. June 22 until 6 a.m. June 23 at Germantown High School.

Optimist Club plans Kids Fishing Derby

Menomonee Falls - The Optimist Club of Menomonee Falls is hosting Kids Fishing Derby from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. May 12 at the Mill Pond Shelter, located north of the Main Street bridge between Water Street and Grand Avenue.

This catch and release contest is free for all children ages 3-16 who reside or attend school in Menomonee Falls. Children younger than 9 must be accompanied by an adult. No fishing license is required for children younger than 16. Participants should bring their own fishing equipment.

Free registration is from 9 to10 a.m. at the Mill Pond Shelter, which includes free T-shirts for all entrants and a chance to win a door prize. The contest is from 10 a.m. to noon.

Kids Fishing Derby is sponsored in part by the Menomonee Falls Police Department, the village of Menomonee Falls, R.B. Enterprises, Pops Frozen Custard and Krueger's Recreation Center.

Woodland Wildflower Walk set at Lime Kiln Park

Menomonee Falls - The Friends of Lime Kiln Park Natural Area are presenting a free, guided walk through Lime Kiln Park in Menomonee Falls at 10 a.m. May 12.

The walk will be guided by Jan Koel, botanist and certified herbalist. Koel leads a walk through Lime Kiln Park to discover and identify the varied plant life in this unique park in the heart of Menomonee Falls.

The walk begins at the overlook area near the parking lot of the Mill Street park entrance. For information about the mission and activities of the group, visit limekilnpark.org.

The park is located south of Main Street and east of Appleton Avenue.

St. Paul's schedules spring salad luncheon

Menomonee Falls - St. Paul's United Church of Christ, W16856 Appleton Ave., is hosting the 37th annual Spring Salad Luncheon from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. May 15.

There will be a raffle of handmade items and spring flowers will be sold. Advanced tickets for $9 are available by calling Alice Weiss at (262) 255-5709. Tickers at the door are $10. Red hat groups and those coming on their lunch hour are welcome but are asked to make advanced reservations for seating.

Special evening looks back at company's legacy

West Bend - Join Washington County Historical Society at its West Bend Co./Regal Ware Museum in West Bend from 7 to 8:30 p.m. May 15 for a special evening of memories, history and demonstrations. The Reigle family will speak about the history and future of the aluminum industry in the County. Refreshments will be served.

Admission is $4 per adult, $3 for seniors, free for children 5 and younger and WCHS members. Join the Washington County Historical Society that evening and get in free!

Falls library welcomes Lionel Railroad Club of Milwaukee

Menomonee Falls - The Menomonee Falls Public Library hosts a railroad demonstration with the Lionel Railroad Club of Milwaukee to celebrate railroads in America from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. May 19 in the community room at the library, W156 N8436 Pilgrim Road.

Club members will bring their railroads, set them up, run them and answer any questions about them. The program is free.

Christian Women's Club schedules brunch

Menomonee Falls - The Milwaukee West Suburban Christian Women's Club is hosting a brunch get-together from 9:30 to 11 a.m. May 21 at Davians Banquet and Conference Center, 16300 Silver Spring Drive.

Tami Conrad from the Little Pizzazz women's apparel shop in Cedarburg will show attendees upcoming trends in fashion accessories.

There is also be a speaker from Madison, Barb Hoffner, who talks about Walking This Marathon of Life.

Visit old haunts during West Bend ghost tours

West Bend - Do you believe in ghosts? Whether you're a believer or a skeptic, it's undeniable that stories of the paranormal represent modern day folklore. J. Nathan Couch, author of the upcoming book "Washington County Paranormal: A Wisconsin Legend Trip," blends historical facts, local legends, and alleged eyewitness accounts on this leisurely stroll past an assortment of alleged spooks, specters and spirits.

These stories come to life on the family-friendly ghost walks that run from 7 to 8:30 p.m. on various dates in April through November, or by appointment, in front of the old sheriff's residence and jail, 340 S. Fifth Ave. in West Bend. Each walk is $10 per person. Minors must be accompanied by an adult. Reservations are strongly suggested. Dogs and humans face off in annual race

Menomonee Falls - On May 18, 19 and 20, more than 200 teams, each consisting of one dog and one human, race against the clock on obstacle courses featuring jumps, tunnels, seesaws and elevated dog-walks. These dogs perform their maneuvers at full speed with precision and grace.

K-9 Obedience Training Club of Menomonee Falls is hosting the AKC Agility Trial which will be held outdoors on the Training Club grounds, N56W20326 Silver Spring Drive. On May 18, the event begins at noon and on May 19 and 20, it begins at 8 a.m. and Saturday or Sunday starting at 8 a.m. Competitions will go on throughout the day, wrapping up around 3 p.m. Admission is free to spectators.

Theater group presents 'Fiddler on the Roof'

Brown Deer - Imagination Theatre of Germantown presents "Fiddler on the Roof" at 7 p.m. Aug. 3, 4, 10 and 11 and 3 p.m. Aug. 5 and 12 at Brown Deer High School, 8060 N. 60th St.

Performer auditions are being held at 6:30 p.m. May 21 and 23 at CrossWay Church, W156N10041 Pilgrim Road, Germantown.

Singers, dancers and actors of all ages are needed. Those interested in auditioning should prepare eight to 16 bars from a song to be sung a cappella. Be prepared to learn a short dance combination.

Orchestra auditions are being held at 7 p.m. May 30 at CrossWay Church. Musicians who play viola, violin, cello, flute, clarinet, accordion, piccolo and bass should prepare 16 to 32 bars to perform.

Rehearsals will begin June 10 and will be held from 6 to 10 p.m. Sunday to Wednesday evenings.

Golf Super Scramble set for summer

Germantown - The sixth annual golf super scramble hosted by the Richfield Lions Club is June 8 at Blackstone Creek Golf Course. Coffee and doughnuts, as well as registration is scheduled for 8 a.m. with a shotgun start at 9:30 a.m. Dinner and prizes are at 4 p.m.

The event is a primary fundraiser for the Richfield Lions. Along with golf, it includes dinner, raffles and hole contests.

Quad/Graphics hosts children's summer camp

Lannon - Parents looking for summer care for their school-aged children need look no further than Quad/Graphics' long-running Jr. Camp/Quad program, held at Lannon Elementary School, 7145 N. Lannon Road, which is open to the community.

The camp runs Mondays through Fridays beginning June 11. Parents are welcome to pick the dates they want their child to attend; Jr. Camp/Quad asks for a minimum average attendance of two days a week. Camp/Quad can accommodate most schedules. The cost for community members is $47.30 for a 10-hour day, and discounts are available for each additional family member. Hourly and extended day rates also are available.

Washington County Historical Society Seeks home brews

West Bend - The Wisconsin Legislature has passed the Home Brew Tasting Bill and the annual Home Brew Contest originally set for April 16 has been rescheduled for June 4 at Riverside Brewery, 255 South Main St., in West Bend.

Enter a home brew in the Washington County Historical Society's second Home Brew Contest. Three barrels of the winning recipe will be made by Riverside Brewery and sampled at Brew-HaHa on Sept. 28.

Deadline for advanced registration is June 1. Late entries may register between 5 and 6 p.m. June 4 at the Riverside Brewery and Restaurant. There is a $20 fee for the first recipe and each additional recipe is $10, with a maximum of three entries per person.

Big Band trip planned for Germantown seniors

Germantown - The Germantown Senior Center is hosting Celebration Belle Big Band Cruise on July 11.

Seniors can enjoy a four-hour cruise aboard a riverboat while listening to big band entertainment.

Teen volunteers needed for playground duty

Germantown - The recreation department needs volunteers to help with playground groups from June 11 to Aug. 3.

Volunteers make a commitment of working at least two days per week from 9 a.m. to noon. Playground groups go on field trips every Wednesday, so volunteers are not needed on Wednesdays.

Volunteers are encouraged to keep track of their time so the recreation department can write a letter of recommendation at the end of summer.
