Mary Margaret Thiel
Mary Margaret Thiel, 87, of Mesa, Ariz., formerly of Menomonee Falls, died March 23, 2009, at age 87.
She was born in Webster City, Iowa, on July 2, 1921, to her late parents Cora and Irving Mulholland.
She received her nursing degree at Iowa State and served in the Army in World War II. She met Karl when he became her patient. They were married on June 4, 1945, and raised three children in Karl's hometown of Sheboygan.
They later moved to Menomonee Falls, where she worked as a nurse in a VA hospital and then a local hospital and was active in the AMVETS, American Legion and VFW Auxiliaries.
Karl and Mary retired to Mesa in 1977. She became active in DAR, Colonial Dames and the Genealogical Society and helped start Dreamland Villa's Computer Club. She taught herself how to use a computer so she could set up her family trees and spend countless hours doing research, traveling to libraries, courthouses, cemeteries and corresponding with dozens of relatives she found through her adventures.
She is survived by her children, Diane Stone and Pat (Cathy); grandchildren, Rob Thiel and Becky (Adam) Downer; great-grandchildren, Isabella Thiel and Eve Downer; other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Karl; daughter, Judy (Raffaele) Buscema; and brothers, Everett, Kenneth and Donald.
Services were March 26 at Velda Rose United Methodist Church, Mesa.
