Russ Darrow announces Salvation Army stations
Menomonee Falls - Russ Darrow Group, headquartered in Menomonee Falls, announced its dealerships are official donation stations for the Salvation Army 2012 holiday collection.
The public is invited to donate money, nonperishable food, gently used clothing and new toys for distribution to needy families at any Russ Darrow Group dealership location through Dec. 7.
EDWC hires new communications coordinator
West Bend - Economic Development Washington County hired Deborah Reinbold to join its development team as programs and communications coordinator.
In her new role, Reinbold will provide program guidance and support critical to the success of EDWC's next-level 2011-2013 strategy. This entails leadership of EDWC's local and national marketing efforts, outreach to local stakeholders, coordination of the organization's initiatives and logistical support.
Police Department receives education award
Germantown - The School Board on Monday awarded the Friends of Education plaque to the Police Department for their dedication and commitment to serving the School District.
Police Chief Peter Hoell accepted the award. The department was thanked for providing service such as advising on safety plans and collaborating with administration to make the schools safe.
Orchard Ridge acknowledged for habitat protection
Germantown - The Wildlife Habitat Council presented Waste Management's Orchard Ridge Landfill with its Wildlife at WorkSM recertification.
Orchard Ridge garnered the recognition for habitat protection at a Germantown property adjacent to the disposal site in Menomonee Falls. The habitat is part of 134 total certified programs for Waste Management at 116 sites companywide. The site's wildlife team manages a variety of habitats, including prairies, forested wetlands, oak/hickory forests and riparian zones.
Waste Management employees, along with EC3 Environmental Consulting and volunteers from Pheasants Forever, Bluebird Restoration Association of Wisconsin and Wisconsin Lutheran College, restore and maintain wildlife habitats at the Orchard Ridge project site.
In 2010, two acres of woody invasive species were removed. The area had predominantly black locust, but also included buckthorn, Asian honeysuckle, sumac, prickly ash and box elder. The team is planting native species once invasive plants are eradicated.
The effort created a successful bluebird and wood duck nest box program. In just one nesting season it saw 17 bluebirds fledge, 15 hooded merganser hatchlings, and nine wood duck hatchlings.
Social studies program offered to home school families
West Bend - The Washington County Historical Society announced the 2013 social studies program for home school students ages 8 to 11.
Classes begin Jan. 8 and are offered from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. or 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. on the second Tuesday every week until May at the Old Courthouse Museum, 320 S. Fifth Ave.
Topics this year include the French fur trade, history of money and coins, happy birthday Wisconsin and the one-room school experience. Classes integrate hands-on learning with activities that meet Wisconsin State Learning Standards for grade four.
Registration is required by Dec. 7. The cost is $18 per child for all five classes or $5 per child per class.

Recreation Department receives excellence awards
Germantown - The Park & Recreation Department received three Silver Star awards from the Wisconsin Park & Recreation Association at its annual conference and trade show.
Silver Stars are awarded by the Recreation Section to the best and most creative programs by category and population size. The department won awards in the following categories: Special/Community Events for The Amazing Race; Youth Programming for W-W-W-Wipeout; and Creative Service Delivery/Marketing for the promotional video.
MCW surgeon joins cancer team at Community Memorial
Menomonee Falls - Medical College of Wisconsin breast surgeon Miraj Shah-Khan joined the Cancer Care Center team at Froedtert Health Community Memorial Hospital in Menomonee Falls.
Shah-Khan specializes in evaluating and managing benign as well as malignant breast disease. Her research interests include atypical breast lesions, lobular neoplasia and breast density.

New physicians at Community Memorial Medical Commons
Menomonee Falls - The Community Memorial Medical Commons, a multi-specialty clinic of Froedtert Health Community Memorial Hospital and the Medical College of Wisconsin, opened a new clinic, N7055 Northfield Drive, and added several physicians who are now seeing patients at that location.
The new Froedtert and The Medical College of Wisconsin Dermatology Clinic offers services in the diagnosis and management of adult skin diseases and conditions by MCW dermatologist Dr. Stefan Schieke and physician's assistant Laura Richter.
New physicians were added to clinics at CMMC. Jonathan Florczak, an MCW neurologist joined the clinic. His practice focuses on general neurological disorders and illnesses, with a special interest in headaches.
Theodore Hubley, an MCW pulmonologist, specializes in sleep medicine, asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, lung carcinoma and interstitial lung disease. Syed Mehdi is an MCW gastroenterologist and is seeing patients in the Gatroenterology Clinic. He specializes in colon and pancreatic cancers, irritable bowel syndrome, swallowing disorders, diverticulosis, constipation and incontinence, gallstones, hepatitis and alcoholic liver disease.
David Milia, a general surgeon, is now offering consultations at the General Surgery Clinic. He specializes in laparoscopic surgery, endoscopy, trauma and emergency surgery, and critical care medicine.
CMMC offers more than 20 medical specialties in addition to primary care and walk-in services.
