Town of Brookfield development to include Sendik's

As demolition continues to make way for the town of Brookfield's The Corners, a major tenant for the development was announced.

The Corners, being developed by The Marcus Corp., has announced that a Sendik's Food Market will fill 32,000 square feet of the town-center-style development. The Sendik's will be a full-service grocery store with covered parking and will be near the main entrance to The Corners.

Marcus Corp. and Sendik's officials alike were excited with the partnership.

"We are very pleased to partner with Sendik's, which is hands down our best-in-class local grocer," Marcus Corp. director of real estate Katie Falvey said in a press release. "The new Sendik's Food Market is a perfect fit with the high standard being set by the unique design and the popular retailers and restaurants at The Corners."

Sendik's is owned and operated by the Balistreri family.

"The Corners is an ideal location to serve the Waukesha County community," co-owner Ted Balistreri said in a statement. "We look forward to working with The Marcus Corporation and the town of Brookfield on this landmark development."

Sendik's and the Balistreri family have served the Milwaukee area since 1926. Sendik's currently operates 12 stores throughout southeastern Wisconsin.

The grocery store joins the first Von Maur department store in Wisconsin as the two anchors for The Corners.

Demolition of existing buildings, including the West Point Cinema, has begun in order to make room for construction that Falvey says will begin in the fall.

"The entire project, including both anchors, Von Maur and Sendik's, and the retail stores and restaurants, will open in fall 2016," Falvey said.

The Corners in total will be a 460,000-square-foot development that is expected to create 325 construction jobs for two years and then provide over 1,000 permanent jobs once the development is complete. Sendik's itself is expected to employ more than 100 workers.

The Corners will be located at the corners of Bluemound and Barker roads. Thus far, other retailers and restaurants that have signed on for the shopping center include Arhaus Furniture, Chico's, Hot Mama, Kilwins, White House Black Market, Colectivo Coffee, Grimaldi's Pizza and The Lowlands Group.

"As our current tenant list indicates, the vibrant mix of fashion, dining and living at The Corners resonates with first-to-market national retailers and restaurants, as well as exceptional local retailers like Sendik's," Falvey said. "We are continuing to attract additional retailers who are drawn to this distinctive new regional destination."

The Corners is also expected to offer 150 luxury apartments and lofts.
