Alumni to be inducted in Falls Fine Arts Hall of Fame

Menomonee Falls โ€” - Menomonee Falls - Six Menomonee Falls High School alumni will join the ranks of those previously inducted in the school's Fine Arts Hall of Fame.

Coupled with the school's Wind Symphony and Orchestra concert Tuesday, June 2, the ceremony will recognize Mark Winter, Donna Drapeau, Robert Dusek, John Meyer, Heidi Schlumpf and Nancy Dianne Stark for their contributions to the areas of music, art, dance and media.

"They are all phenomenal people," Dick Woosencraft, former high school principal and selection committee member, said.

In 2004, Woosencraft created the Hall of Fame, Wall of Recognition and Athletic Hall of Fame. "I started this my last year as principal," he said.

The Wall of Recognition focuses on philanthropic works of alumni and the Athletic Hall of Fame features alumni who have excelled in sports after high school.

The inductees will be honored during the concert, and members of the public are invited to meet them at a reception in the school's library following the concert.

Mark Winter, Class of 1989

After high school, Mark Winter attended Wyoming Technical Institute where he studied auto body repair and trained in welding, metals and painting. After owning his own auto body business for several years, he became a full-time sculptor.

Winter uses scrap metal and recycled parts. The pieces are manipulated into sculptural forms. He shows his work both in galleries and at art shows.

His studio is located at W188 N9270 Maple Road in Menomonee Falls.

Donna Drapeau, Class of 1984

Donna Drapeau received a bachelor's degree from the Art Institute of Chicago and completed a residence at Headington School Oxford.

She spent years in corporate America, eventually becoming a senior creative director at Playboy. However her art "has been there to calm me," according to a news release issued by the school.

She shows her work in gallery shows and continually explores using different materials.

Robert Dusek, Class of 1980

Robert Dusek received his academic training at the Eastman School of Music, Southern Methodist University and the University of Colorado at Boulder, where he received his doctorate in musical arts.

He is the recipient of numerous awards and honors in the field of composition. His music has been performed worldwide.

Currently, he serves as pastor of worship and arts at Centerpoint Community Church where he is responsible for all aspects of artistic and musical presentations, including large productions.

John Meyer, Class of 1974

John Meyer graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee with a bachelor's degree in music education. During his days at UWM, he performed with the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra, the Milwaukee Ballet, the Florentine Opera Company and the Skylight Opera Theatre.

He received a master's degree in music in trombone performance from Michigan State University.

After years of instructing and performing and picking up awards along the way, Meyer continues as a member of Grand Rapids Symphony Orchestra.

Heidi Schlumpf, Class of 1982

Heidi Schlumpf graduated magna cum laude from University of Notre Dame with a bachelor's degree in American Studies. She later earned a master's degree in feminist theology from Garrett-Evangelical Theological Seminary at Northwestern University.

Schlumpf began her journalism career with the company that published her hometown newspaper, Community Newspapers Inc. Her journalism career took her to U.S. Catholic magazine as managing editor, picking up numerous awards along the way.

Last year, she began teaching writing and communication to adult students at Aurora University outside Chicago. She continues to write for a number of publications. Her first book will be published in September.

Nancy Stark, Class of 1970

Nancy Stark is the founder and director of the Nancy Dianne Studio of Dance Ltd., W178N9309 Watertower Road, Menomonee Falls.

She danced professionally as a founding member of the Milwaukee Ballet, as well as dancing in the Operetta Carnival at the Marcus Center for the Performing Arts. Shortly thereafter she took over her former teacher's studio.

She has achieved lifetime membership in the Dance Masters of Wisconsin, and the Chicago National Association of Dance Masters.

She is involved with the youth of the surrounding communities by participation in numerous Fine Arts Day events, choreographer for the Menomonee Falls Junior Miss program, and numerous musical and band revue programs.
