Students will get a quality education wherever they go

Public Forum:

Redistricting has recently become a big issue in the community, and I can understand parents concerns. Elementary school years are important for a child's development. In those years, children develop a work ethic, make friends, and develop relationships with teachers and other staff members. That being said, I don't believe that the redistricted students from Ben Franklin to Riverside will miss out on these experiences.

Menomonee Falls is known for its high academic standards. All of the elementary schools achieve high levels. It is difficult to believe that the elementary school attended - in an already excellent school district - will play a noticeable role in a child's future.

Teachers at any school are dedicated to their students and make learning the priority in the classroom. This is not different from Ben Franklin to Riverside. Ben Franklin parents may focus on the small differences in test scores between the two schools, but I believe that a student's success is not just dependent on the school.

Riverside is one of the most diverse elementary schools in the district. Riverside also offers a learning environment with smaller class sizes, which studies have shown can benefit students immensely. In a time when bigger class sizes are starting to become the norm, parents should appreciate this.

After reading the numerous complaints of Ben Franklin parents, I feel like their worries are unjustified. I attended Riverside Elementary and was successful throughout high school. At graduation this past spring, it was not the elementary school attended that was evaluated, but what students accomplished with their education.

Ben Franklin parents must realize that the name or location of a school is not as important as the teachers, other staff members and active parents that help make it a success.
