Menomonee Falls — Menomonee Falls High School will have a new principal when students head back to class this fall.
The School Board on Monday approved hiring Gary Kiltz, who has held the same job at South Milwaukee High School, at an annual salary of $107,000.
Kiltz will replace William Hintz, who resigned as principal after a year that saw an increase in fights, suspensions and expulsions at the school.
Hintz, who had been the high school's principal for six years, will be the associate principal at North Middle School - at least for now. Hintz is looking at opportunities in other districts, Superintendent Keith Marty said.
Kiltz is a Wisconsin native who graduated from Whitnall High School and received his bachelor's in education degree at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He started his career as a social studies teacher and received a master's degree from UW-Milwaukee.
Kiltz isn't a stranger to Menomonee Falls, having spent three years in the mid-1990s as the lead teacher at the Empower Academy, an alternative high school that was in the district's administrative building.
He then went to the West Bend School District, where he spent two years as a lead teacher at an alternative school and served a year as associate principal at West Bend East High School.
Kiltz and his family then moved to Arizona, where his wife was accepted to graduate school. He received his doctorate in education from Arizona State University and worked as a principal in Mesa.
After his daughter was born, Kiltz returned to the area and has been at South Milwaukee High School for the past five years.
"Menomonee Falls High School is one of the premier high schools in the region, if not the state," said Kiltz. "I'm excited to be principal."

Look back on articles about the Schools here...if we were given all of the news at one time- there would be a massive revolt! A few years ago we had too many teachers, then they added zero hour at the High School to retain those extra teachers. Some months back, the District gave a wage increase to the teachers, then budget problems needed to be solved to make up a $1.5 Million deficit. Recently the District decided to implement a system of tracking kid's progress, this involves giving teachers time away from the classroom to complete. HELLO? Is anyone noticing a pattern here? It is yet another way to retain teachers who would otherwise be layed off!
It is up to us as the people footing the bill to demand the district make cuts in benefits, salary, and administration. If the real world business was ran this way- none of us would have a job!

South Milwaukee also has casualties due to the State's broken education funding system. All our school leaders will need creative, open minds, to weather the next few years. Remember to vote accordingly this fall. Push the candidates on where they stand on school funding. (more information on Forward South Milwaukee: Facebook Page)
