Menomonee Falls doctors receive Caring Awards

Menomonee Falls - Froedtert Health Community Memorial Hospital has named Gregory Barczak and Donald Landgraf as the recipients of the 2012 Spirit of Caring Awards.

The Spirit of Caring - Excellence in the Medical Profession Award was awarded posthumously to Landgraf of Menomonee Falls. The Spirit of Caring - Community Service Award was awarded to Barczak of Menomonee Falls. The Spirit of Caring - Excellence in the Medical Profession Award recognizes members of the Community Memorial Hospital medical staff who have displayed extraordinary professionalism or compassion through interaction with peers and patients and who embody excellence through service, innovation, technical skill, leadership or practice.

Landgraf, a family practice physician, passed away in January 2012 after serving on the Community Memorial Hospital medical staff for 40 years. Nursing staff described a kind, compassionate man who excelled at educating patients, teaching the staff and genuinely caring for his patients as a calming, comforting influence on them and their families.

The award also recognizes members of the Community Memorial Hospital medical staff who invest in their community through volunteer activities not directly related to the hospital or the doctor's primary practice. Barczak, a podiatrist, was commended for his volunteer involvement at Church of the Gesu as a substitute Sunday school teacher and as a Eucharistic minister; with the Menomonee Falls Recreation Department as head of the boys and girls basketball program; and with coaching a Menomonee Falls Junior Indians select team and a Little League team.
