School District to hire new principal, assistant principal

Menomonee Falls - The Menomonee Falls School District received more than 170 applications for the assistant principal position at the high school.

The district interviewed applicants on Friday and anticipates an announcement on the hiring decision next week. The district is also reviewing candidates for the principal position at Menomonee Falls High School. Superintendent Patricia Greco said they will have recommendation on hiring for the School Board to review in the beginning of May.

Jackson resident recognized with hospital nursing award

Menomonee Falls - Bettina Wobig, a resident of Jackson, has been recognized with Community Memorial Hospital's DAISY award for her extraordinary care.

Wobig, a registered nurse in the hospital's Modified Care Unit has been with Community Memorial Hospital since 2008. She was nominated by a patient who expressed gratitude for the care she and her husband received from Wobig. The DAISY Foundation, an acronym for Diseases Attacking the Immune System, recognizes nurses as unsung heroes of society who deserve more recognition and honor than they receive.

At Community Memorial, Wobig was honored at a recent ceremony where she received a certificate, pin and sculpture.

Falls library offers free computer classes

Menomonee Falls - Registration for the free computer classes offered in May and June at the Menomonee Falls Public Library will began Tuesday. Registration is required either in person at the reference desk on the second floor or by phone at (262) 532-8920. Classes offered are single session classes and some are a series of classes. Class size is limited, so early registration is recommended.

Sessions include a class for seniors on computer basics, using the library's online catalog, Facebook for seniors, classes on Microsoft Excel 2007 and Microsoft Word, a guide to editing digital photos for beginners and individual tutoring on July 20.

Open house to discuss women's health

Menomonee Falls - Free presentations about hormone therapy and women's health screenings will be given at the Froedtert Health Community Memorial Hospital Women's Health Center open house May 3 and 5. The May 3 open house runs 4-7 p.m., and the May 5 open house will run 9 a.m. to noon.

Jacquelyn Paykel, Medical College of Wisconsin obstetrician/gynecologist, discusses hormone therapy at 4:30, 5:30 and 6:30 p.m. May 3. Kelly Richards, nurse practitioner, discusses health screenings for women at 9:30, 10:30 and 11:30 a.m. May 5.

Tazinos to open location in Germantown

Germantown - Tazinos announced last week that it plans to open a restaurant location in Germantown in late 2012.

Tazinos is a pizza and salad bistro that features all-you-can-eat pizza, pasta and salad offerings. Tazinos currently owns and operates restaurants in Menomonee Falls, Oak Creek and Pleasant Prairie and is headquartered in Wisconsin.

Hamilton school fees to increase in 2012-13

Sussex - The Hamilton School Board increased school user fees and lunch prices for the 2012-13 school year at last week's meeting.

The school district's $20 technology fee will now be included in the student fee, and all student fees except those for 4K students will increase by $20 to cover student consumable technology expenses. The School District also announced that the family cap will be dropped on all fees.

Lunch prices too, will go up by 10 cents per meal. Last year, the district increased meal prices by 15 cents. Elementary school students will now pay $2.35, while middle and high school students will pay $2.75. Adult meals will cost $3.50 next year. Milk prices remain unchanged at 30 cents per carton.

The increased costs are a result of federal requirements for schools to provide healthier school lunches, the district said.
