Menomonee Falls named

as Bird City Wisconsin

Menomonee Falls - Menomonee Falls has joined the ranks of 60 bird-friendly communities in Wisconsin after being named Bird City Wisconsin.

Bird City Wisconsin is a conservation effort to encourage communities to implement sound bird conservation practices by offering public recognition to those who enhance the environment for birds and educate the public about the interactions between birds and people and about the contributions birds make to a community.

The village identified July 26 as International Migratory Bird Day in Menomonee Falls, which was part of the process of being recognized as Bird City Wisconsin.

Dry Cleaners accepting

prom dress donations

Menomonee Falls - The Pass it on Network is collecting gently used, clean prom dresses to be given to girls who can't afford them as part of the third annual Project Prom Dress.

Dresses can be dropped off at Express Natural Dry Cleaners, W15112 Appleton Ave., which will clean the dresses at no charge.

Dresses will be distributed to girls from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. March 23; 6 to 8 p.m. March 26; and 6 to 8 p.m. April 10 at Thomas Jefferson Middle School, N8301 Lavergne Ave.

Groundbreaking planned

for health facility

Menomonee Falls - The Wisconsin Athletic Club will partner with Froedtert Health to bring a state-of-the-art sports medicine and fitness facility to Menomonee Falls.

Together with Ryan Companies, the Wisconsin Athletic Club and Froedtert Health broke ground on a 90,000-square-foot building on Wednesday. Located on 10.6 acres near the southwest corner of Pilgrim Road and the US 41/45 corridor in Menomonee Falls, the $14-million facility is scheduled to open later this year.

The facility will be divided into two sections. The Wisconsin Athletic Club will occupy a one-story, 47,500-square-foot portion scheduled to open its doors in November. The facility will also feature 5,000 square feet of restaurant space.

Scheduled to welcome patients in January 2014, Froedtert Health will lease 42,500 square feet of space in a two-story building that will offer a wide variety of sports medicine and orthopedic services.

Village approves industrial

bond issuance

Menomonee Falls - The Menomonee Falls Village Board on Monday approved the issuance of $9 million in industrial development revenue bonds for Alto-Shamm Inc./Enthermics Medical Systems for the expansion of their facility.

The federal government subsidized the industrial revenue bonds, which will help fund the expansion of the facility and buy new industrial equipment for the factory that will create specialized heating blankets for hospitals. The village is merely the conduit that issues the bonds and does not have any liability and no repayment requirements, said Village Manager Mark Fitzgerald.

The company plans to increase employment throughout 2013 and 2014.

Runnion Equipment

selects new president

Menomonee Falls - Illinois-based company Runnion Equipment, which has a location in Menomonee Falls, has named Michael F. Prochor as its new president.

Prochot was most recently the vice president and general manager. He is taking over for Patrick Runnion, who is now the CEO of the company.

The sales office for Runnion is located at N60 W 14752 Kaul Ave. in Menomonee Falls. The company has been selling and servicing boom trucks throughout north Illinois, northwest Indiana and southern Wisconsin for 38 years.

Germantown sets public

meeting on Donges Bay

Germantown - The village of Germantown and design consultant R.A. Smith National are hosting an open-house information meeting from 4 to 6 p.m. Feb. 28 at Germantown Village Hall, W17001 Mequon Road, to allow residents to offer input on the Donges Bay Road improvement project.

The meeting is to present the purpose and need for improvements along the roadway, as well as get public opinion on the project. People with concerns or knowledge about historical or archaeological resources, drainage problems, or environmental issues such as hazardous waste and underground storage tanks are encouraged to attend the meeting.

The project will upgrade Donges Bay Road to current design and safety standards, improve drainage, provide biking accommodations, and replace deteriorated pavement.

Germantown board OKs

2013-14 calendar

Germantown - The Germantown School Board approved the 2013-14 calendar with minor changes from the current year.

One change is the scheduling of two professional development days in a row Oct. 17 and 18.

AARP offers free

tax assistance

Germantown - Trained AARP volunteers are offering free tax assistance through April 22.

The Germantown session is scheduled for 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Wednesdays until April 10 at the Germantown Senior Center, N11960 Park Ave. Call (262) 253-7799 to make a reservation. Another session will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Fridays through April 12 at the Menomonee Falls Library, N8436 Pilgrim Road. Call (262) 255-8460 to reserve a spot.

Students' art displayed

at art museum

Milwaukee - The Milwaukee Art Museum's annual exhibition that features works created by Wisconsin students in grades seven through 12 - including those from Germantown and Menomonee Falls - is now on display.

More than 1,000 individual artworks from more than 100 schools across the state participated in the Scholastic Art Awards. Gold and Silver Key winning artists are on display in Schroder Galleria and Pieper Gallery through March 17.

The winners from Germantown High School are: Jessica Dean, Haley Dieter, Mollie Gauger, Taylor Hamm, Erin Lakich, Paige Lemley, Aliena Matuszczak, Lauren Schleicher and Amanda Witzlib.

From Menomonee Falls High School, the winners are: Taylor Anderson, Cooper Dozzi, Sara Granke, Molly Grieger, Kasey Hurst, Mazie Krahn, Natalie Neils, Celeste Perry, Alexis Proell, Brittni Reeves, Courtney Rodriguez, Jamie Sager, Emily Schulz, Jill Schweiss, Emma Stadelmann and Kimberly Watry. The Scholastic Art Awards Wisconsin competition and exhibition is the regional section of The Scholastic Art and Writing Awards National Program, conducted by the Alliance for Young Artists and Writers.

Germantown approves

land for farm use

Germantown - The Germantown School Board approved the rent of 21.6 acres of tillable land located south of Holy Hill Road between Highway 145 and Goldendale Road to be used specifically for farming.

Richard Stephan has been renting the land since 1998 for each planting season. The land is rented for $85 per acre.

Falls company purchased

by Seider Heating

Menomonee Falls - Seider Heating & Plumbing, of Milwaukee and Waukesha, has purchased Mohrhusen & Associates in Menomonee Falls.

All past and current Mohrhusen HVAC and plumbing customers will continue to have their service work handled through Seider. In addition, Seider will take over the Mohrhusen location at N89 W16340 Main Street in Menomonee Falls.

Clarence Schmitt, owner of Mohrhusen, is retiring.

Germantown Clinic

welcomes new provider

Germantown - Froedtert Health Medical Group has announced the addition of Tabatha Rangel, family medicine physician assistant at Germantown Clinic.

Physician assistants are health care providers who receive advanced clinical training and are able to see patients and prescribe medication. They are certified by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants. Rangel received her PA degree from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. She brings 20 years of family medicine experience performing a variety of advanced clinical duties involved in assessing, treating, controlling and preventing patient illness and disease.

Registration open

for April ACT Test

Menomonee Falls - Registration is now open for the April 13 ACT college and career readiness exam.

Students who want to take the exam must register by March 8 via actstudent.org or by mail. Paper registration forms are available at school counselor offices or by requesting registration packets from ACT. Students must submit a photo of themselves to register for the exam.
