Germantown residents help patients by giving blood
Germantown - Residents made a positive impact in the lives of patients in need of blood on Aug. 1, when more than 90 people turned out to make a blood donation during a drive at the Quilted Bear, N111 W18611 Mequon Road.
The blood donations made that day will go on to save or impact the lives of almost 300 people.
To maintain an adequate supply at the area hospitals BloodCenter of Wisconsin serves, at least 800 donors must be seen each day. Hospitals, including Froedtert Health - Community Memorial Hospital in Menomonee Falls, have come to rely on BloodCenter of Wisconsin for a steady supply of blood to treat their patients.
Another opportunity to donate blood will occur from 2 to 7 p.m. Sept. 17 in the community room at the Germantown Community Library, N112 W16957 Mequon Road.
Anyone 17 or older who is in good health and meets eligibility requirements is encouraged to donate blood. Parental consent is required for 16-year-olds to donate. The entire process takes about an hour. Donors should bring a photo ID that includes their birth date. For information, call (877) 232-4376 or visit bcw.edu/germantown.
