Man 'returns' stolen antifreeze, gets cash rebate

Menomonee Falls - Menomonee Falls police are seeking an unknown man who fraudulently returned two gallons of antifreeze for cash at BP, N71 W13161 Appleton Ave., shortly before 6:45 p.m. Sept. 23.

According to the police log, the gas station clerk called police after the man returned the antifreeze for cash shortly before 6:45 p.m. The clerk told police that he felt the return was suspicious because they don't usually have returns.

Upon reviewing the in-store surveillance video police saw the suspect walk into the store at 6:42 p.m., walk down an aisle and pick up two gallon containers of antifreeze from a shelf, then immediately walk up to the cash register to return them. The clerk didn't see the suspect walk into the store and steal the items, so he gave the suspect a cash rebate.

The suspect is described as a 5-foot, 11-inch tall male weighing 150 pounds and wearing a black coat and blue jeans.

The clerk recorded the license plate number of the suspect's vehicle and police are following up.

Loud muffler leads to arrest and multiple citations

Menomonee Falls - A loud muffler led to multiple citations and an arrest for two unlucky Richfield residents at 4:30 p.m. Sept. 23.

According to the Menomonee Falls police log:

An officer who pulled over a car for an illegal muffler on Roosevelt Drive and Appleton Avenue at 4:25 p.m. executed a consent search after he detected a strong odor of marijuana coming from inside the car.

During the search the officer discovered marijuana, a grinder and a pipe with burned residue inside the passenger's purse. The passenger, a 20-year-old Richfield woman, was arrested for possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia.

While the woman was being processed at the police station, police discovered three bottles of hard liquor during an inventory of her purse and its contents. She was issued an additional citation for underage possession of alcohol.

During the vehicle search police also found fireworks in the car. The driver of the car, an 18-year-old Richfield man, admitted ownership of the fireworks and was cited for possession of fireworks and an illegal muffler.
