Falls' Nordness helps DHSA to state soccer title
Menomonee Falls resident Kylie Nordness had a big hand in the DSHA girls soccer team wrapping up its second consecutive WIAA State Division I championship, when the Dashers defeated Waukesha West 1-0, in the final June 13 at Uihlein Soccer Park in Milwaukee.
Nordness, a junior midfielder, was the second-leading scorer for the 19-3-4 DSHA squad with 12 goals and three assists. Wauwatosa resident and junior forward Rachel Koontz led the Dashers with 12 goals and four assists.
Koontz scored and Nordness got the assist on the only goal of the championship game.
DSHA dominated the final with 12 shots and seven corner kicks while the Wolverines (19-4-4) had only four shots and no corner kicks. Junior goalie Katie Jacobson of Elm Grove didn't have to make a single save.
Tosa residents and Dasher co-coaches Kevin and Emily Roethe have now guided the Dashers to a 65-5-6 record since 2007. They are assisted by Kyle Lance and goalkeeper coach Katie Bissen.
DSHA, an all-girl Catholic school located in Milwaukee, draws its students from throughout the metro area.
The roster includes Stephanie Feller, Jacobson, Sarah Lauer, Katie Stoiber and Chrissy Wabiszewski from Elm Grove; Lauren Handzlik, Katie Klinger, Koontz, Greta Weber and Courtney Nelson of Wauwatosa; Meghan Carroll, Bridget Foley, Lauren Gryniewicz, Colleen Gleason and Maureen Boyle of Brookfield; Katie Haynes of Whitefish Bay; Nordness of Falls; Julia Wilson, Colleen Duffy and Brianna LaBarbera of Mequon; Emily Leinfelder of Milwaukee and Molly O'Connor of Fox Point.
