Falls girls soccer team wins many awards

The Menomonee Falls girls soccer team accrued many awards this past spring.

The most valuable player and Greater Metro Player of the Year was Jenna Woodson, while the most valuable offensive players were Jen Eberhardy and Anna Smalley and the most valuable defensive players were Jackie Noshay and Samantha Lehnen.

Other honors included the following: Kayla Heagney and Hannah Nelson for newcomers of the year, Olivia Dennis for most improved; Emily Bollman, Molly Poeske and Hailey Schild for Indian Pride and Spirit; Cassie Poeske and Dennis for Indian warrior and hustle; and Woodson, Noshay and Nelly Botticelli for Indian leadership.

GMC second-team selections included Eberhardy and Smalley while Leanne Hawk, Rachel Clayton, Cassie Poeske, Botticelli, Noshay and Heagney were honorable mention.

The Indians won the Manitowoc Tourney as Cassie Poeske was tournament MVP, and they also took their own tourney with Botticelli taking top honors there.

The team was a NSCAA Team Academic Award winner for its 3.82 GPA and GMC Scholar/Athlete honors went to Bollman, Botticelli, Dennis, Cassie and Molly Poeske, Noshay, Schild and Woodson.

Woosencraft earns pair of sixths in national masters' track

Retired Menomonee Falls Principal Richard P. Woosencraft recently took sixth in both the shot put and discus in the 65-69 year-old division in the USTF Outdoor Masters Track Championships at Benedictine University in Lisle, Ill.

Woosencraft threw a personal best of 37 feet to earn his spot in the shot and 124-1 for his place in the discus. Both classes had 12 competitors in them. Woosencraft was pleased with his efforts as in both classes, he was seeded eighth.

He noted that the level of competition was very high and noted he was impressed with the 70-plus-year-old competitors.
