Falls' resident Furrer selected to UW-Eau Claire Hall of Fame
Menomonee Falls resident and long-time area sports official John Furrer was recently inducted into the UW-Eau Claire Hall of Fame.
A four-year letter-winner in baseball at Eau Claire (graduating in 1983), the Janesville native set then-single season records in home runs (twice), at bats, hits, RBI, and doubles. His .404 batting average his senior year is second-best in school history. He finished with a career .318 batting average.
Following graduation, his résumé includes a nine-year stint with the Chicago White Sox finishing as Director of Group Sales. He has worked for Marshall & Ilsley bank since 1999.
He has spent much time since in Falls, coaching baseball and officiating basketball and has been greatly involved in the Menomonee Falls Falcons select baseball team and the Menomonee Falls Youth Basketball association. He has also served on the WIAA Officials Advisory Board.
He has also been a WIAC basketball official since 1998 working conference championships and NCAA Division III tournament games. He has also officiated five WIAA state tournament games including three state title games. He worked the 2002 girls Division 1 state title game with his father.
Furrer has been named a Menomonee Falls Friend of Education for his volunteer work as well as his work with Junior Achievement. He and his wife, Cheri, have two sons, Ryan, 19, and Michael, 17.
Poole signs letter of intent with Lewis University
Menomonee Falls senior Alexandria Poole signed a national basketball letter of intent with NCAA Division II Lewis University in Romeoville, Ill., this past week.
Poole, a veteran of the Wisconsin Basketball Academy, averaged 8.1 points per game last season for the Indians and was named All-Greater Metro Conference Second Team as a junior.
