Lead Gift from John and Linda Mellowes sets the Momentum for Success
The YMCA of Metropolitan Milwaukee announced today that the Tri-County YMCA Center, located in Menomonee Falls, Wis., has reached its capital campaign goal, raising over $486,769 to support center renovations. As a result of the July 22 flooding, the Tri-County YMCA experienced major flood damage to the lower level, thus providing a unique opportunity to not only restore, but enhance the Y.
Generous lead gift of $200,000 from John and Linda Mellowes set the momentum for success, and various community members and organizations stepped forward to help make the renovation project a reality.
Geoff Mertens, center executive of the Tri-County YMCA said that as a result of community members and local organization’s support, the Y will be able to better serve and meet the needs of its communities.
“Through the generous lead donation of the Mellowes and the help of community organizations, we are excited to say that we’ve reached our goal and are now able to begin the renovation process. We want to thank our donors for their tremendous support as we work to expand the services we provide to the members and neighbors in our surrounding communities.”
The Tri-County Y saw an outpouring of support from local companies that have donated to the campaign including Malkins Carpets and Community Memorial Hospital. Local community organizations such as the Menomonee Falls Optimist Club and the Menomonee Falls Community Foundation have contributed generously in support of the Y as well. Additional corporate sponsors have also stepped up and donated including Harley-Davidson, WaterStone Bank, Briggs and Stratton, M&I Bank, Robert W. Baird, and CG Schmidt.
Renovation plans at the Tri-County Y call for a state of the art wellness center, new youth exercise arcade, expanded class room space and new spin studio, and expanded adaptive needs family locker room. While capital fundraising has been accomplished, the Tri-County YMCA and its board are continuing to raise funds for equipment to fill the youth exercise arcade as interest in the space is expected to be high.
Construction on center enhancement plans will begin in the coming weeks and is expected to conclude in Summer 2011.
